World Endometriosis Congress 2025 – Day One Highlights from Sydney
Day One of the World Congress on Endometriosis 2025 (WCE 2025) kicked off in Sydney, Australia, bringing together a global community of researchers, clinicians, advocates, and innovators passionate about improving care for those living with endometriosis.
The Matilda team was on the ground from the start—having rich conversations, collaborating on research, and showcasing how digital innovation and lived experience can reshape endometriosis surgery support.
Morning Research Roundtable: A Focus on Collaboration, and a Call out for Support.
We began the day at a roundtable session for early, mid, and late-career researchers. The focus? Breaking down silos and what do people need.
Too often, research efforts in endometriosis are fragmented. Today’s session made a compelling case for collaborative, multi-centre studies that build larger, more diverse datasets and accelerate our understanding of endometriosis.
Key themes included:
National coordination for endometriosis biobanking and data sharing
The need for funding models that reward collaboration
Identifying systemic barriers to data access, and how to overcome them together
We left the room inspired by the collective vision for a more unified research landscape across Australia and Internationally and permission to ask for what you need to support your research.
Lunch Chats: Funding, Access & the Future of Digital Health
Midday, we connected with another founder working in the digital health space, sharing insights on funding models, scaling access to care, and navigating the tug-of-war between direct-to-consumer (D2C) offerings versus clinician-led referrals.
This honest, energising conversation reminded us of the importance of staying agile while staying true to the core mission: delivering accessible, evidence-based, endometriosis care that meets people where they are.
We also had lunch with our app development team, discussing new ways to:
Optimise user experience within the Matilda app
Enhance Apple device integration and tracking
Bring our digital pre- and post-surgery support tools to life in a way that feels intuitive and personalised.
Afternoon Learnings: Trauma-Informed Physiotherapy for Endometriosis
While Kev set up our Matilda booth (Booth #4 in the WCE exhibition hall!), Jo attended a Pelvic Health Physiotherapy session. The session focused on understanding how pain works, how best to identify or categorise it, and how to adapt/ensure your clinical practice to ensure you are trauma-informed. From there, the discussion moved to case studies and how does this actually work within clinical practice.
We explored how physiotherapy can offer more than movement—it can offer safety, validation, and empowerment. The energy in the room was incredible, filled with pelvic health physios committed to growing their skills.
Welcoming Our Lived Experience Team
This afternoon, we welcomed our brilliant lived experience leaders—Anna (Community Lead) and Alyssa (Co-designer Lead)—to Sydney. Their insights and voices will guide so much of what we do this week.
We closed the day at the WCE Welcome Drinks, sharing Matilda’s mission with clinicians, researchers, and partners from around the world. We spoke about what’s next for us:
New research pathways
Expansion of our endometriosis surgery optimisation program
Further personalisation features, with a focus on precision medicine.
Coming Up: Live Co-Design & Fireside Chat with Gedeon Richter
Tomorrow, we launch our Live Co-Design Wall at Booth #4. This interactive space invites anyone—patients, clinicians, researchers—to share their thoughts on what should be part of the gold standard of care for endometriosis surgery.
We want to hear it all:
💬 What helped
💬 What was missing
💬 What you wish existed
📍Visit us at the Matilda booth to contribute to something real, co-created, and lasting.
We’re also looking forward to tomorrow night’s fireside chat, co-hosted with Gedeon Richter, where stories of lived experience will take centre stage.
